In 1921, Leblanc began distribution in the US with Gretsch & Brenner in New York. As an accomplished player, he believed heavily in the scientific principles of manufacturing and brought a high level of consistency and playability to their hand-made instruments. Georges’ son Leon was an outstanding clarinetist and won the top prize from the Conservatoire de Paris. The Leblanc family was known for using scientific acoustic research in the development of clarinets. In 1904, Noblet found himself with no heir to the family business, and it was sold to Georges Leblanc. Noblet would help establish France as the center of woodwind manufacturing. Noblet was established in France making instruments for the court of Louis XV. The condition of the Nickel Silver plating is good, about 85, with the wear mainly on the ring touch pieces. Note: A preceeding F in the serial number indicates a clarinet made for the European. The sleeved, adjustable crook is in good condition, with no dings or dents. The Leblanc 400 Series Bass Clarinet was one of Leblanc's flagship instruments for years, being a viable option for students learning the instrument and also a great intermediate instrument that advancing players can hone their skills on. Econo Overhaul Original nickel plated finish on body and keys. It's made of aged grenadilla wood, which is a standard wood that nearly every professional wood clarinet is made of. The matching serial numbers are 6002, which probably dates to the early 1960s. Some of its keys have clouded a bit, due to age, but everything on this instrument moves freely and easily, and all pads are sealing nicely. Leblanc's tradition of offering a wide range of clarinets to students continues with the Leblanc L7165 Alto clarinet. There is some wear on the keys where the previous owner would have held the horn, but that's a part of the instruments character! It was owned by a player and it is best suited for another player who will put many more miles on it. 709' bore design is free blowing and very responsive. Its durable ABS composite body and strong nickel plated keywork will provide many years of service. Our professional woodwind technician replaced several pads and made any necessary adjustments to get the instrument into good, playing condition.
